A unique study consisting of terminally ill cancer patients was devised to investigate the effects of entheogens on those facing imminent death. After the completion of entheogen therapy, participants were evaluated for the changes in their levels of depression, anxiety, fear of death, and physical suffering. The study found not only a moderate to drastic improvement of attitudes concerning death in 70 percent of the patients, it also showed improved relationships with family members and a decreased need for pain medication weeks and months after the trials were completed.¹⁸
